833 (813 Be it knowne unto all Men by these P.rsents That I Benjamen Hattley of London M.rcht have made ordained and in my stead and place have put and Constituted and by these P.rsents doe make ordaine and in my stead and place doe put and Constitute M.r John Brice of Maryland M.rchant now bound for Maryland afd and in Case of his Mortality Majo.r John Hammond of Maryland M.rcht his True and Lawfull Authority Giving unto the said John Brice and in Case of his Mortallity as afd to the said Majo.r Hammond full Power and authority for me in my Name and to my life to ask demand sue for Recover and Receive all and singular such sum and sums of Money Tobaccoes and other M.rchandizes Effects and things whatsoever as are or shall be due owing and belonging to me by or from any pson or psons whatsoever in Maryland afd together w.th all Cost Damages and Interest allso touching the pemises to account Compound Conclude and Agree by arbitration or any other amicable Meanes as shall be Deemed for my most and best Profitt and Advantage upon Recoveries and receipts to make and give due and sufficient Acquittance and discharge and if Need bee to psue Implead seize sequester Attach Arrest Imprison and Condemne (and out of Prison againe when Need shall require to deliver and one att.ry or more to make and substitute in all or any the pemises and him or them againe at pleasure to Revoke and Gen.lly to doe say transact and Accumplish in the Premises (as well in Judg.t Court as without) whatsoever I my self might or Could doe psonally I hreby promiseing to hold and Ratyfie for Good and Valid whatsoever the said John Brice or in Case of his Mortality the said Major John Hammond shall Lawfully doe or cause to be done by virtue hereof In Wittness whereof I the said Benjamen Hatley have hereunto sett my hand and seale Dated in London this seven and twentieth day of the Month of December Anno Dom 1677 And in the Ninth Year of the Reigne of William the third of England &c King Sealed and Delivered in the p.rsence of Benja Hatley (seale) us being stampt Guill.mus Scorey Not Pub John Hurd his s.rvant Ben Dollen John Gandy E Bathurst John Debaliench Jho Baker On the Back of which was Indorsed May 13.th 1698 This day Came before me Capt John Gandy and Capt Benj.a Dollen and made oath upon the Holy Evangelist that the within Lett.r of Att.ry was signed sealed and dd by the within Named Benj.a Hatley in theire P.rsence and Owned by him to be his Act & Deed Robert Smith July 29.th 1698 Recorded p me Chr Gregory Clk July 28.th 98 May it Please y.r Ex.cy in obdience to your Comands I have here sent your Ex.cys acco.t of w.ch Chres Hath been Obtained through y.e mercy of Almighty God at y.e Could Springs in S.t Maryes Taken by one John Deine whom Imloyed to Read Prayers according to Y.r Comands these Following Cures were Done and pformed since the Reader first began Jane Miles living in Bush River w.th her was in five weeks cured of y.e Yawes her Daughter having a paine in her Limbs was Throughly Cured and went away Graves Garrat and his wife of Somersett County was ab.t a month att the Springs both Cured of the Yawes A sucking child of one Sarah Barnaby living in S.t Maryes County was at the Springs ab.t three months was Cured of a Favor and Ague and the Itch Jacob Taylors Wife of Chester in the County of Kent haveing a paine in her limbs two years and a halfe a yeare could not Lye in her bed and at y.e springs ^but^ twelve days went away Cured Charles Skinner |
