825 (805) Maryland May y.e 29.th 1698 George Plater of Carvert County saith that Att or about y.e Month of Feb.ry in the Yeare of our Lord one thousand six hundred ninty three being at y.e house of M.r James Browne of y.e Citty of S.t Marys in Company w.th y.e hono.ble Co.ll Nicholas Greenbury and Tho Tench Esq.rs both of his Maj.ties hono.ble Councill of Maryland The Hono.ble S.r Thomas Lawrence Barronett Secretary of Marland produced ann order of his Maj.ties Councill of England For y.e Reinstateing y.e said S.r Thomas in his former station of councellor the s.d Nicholas did answer he was apointed P.rsident of y.e Councill by S.r Edmond Andross therefore thought therewith before any positive result or answer to admitt him as President George Plater May y.e 28.th 1698 Then came before his Ex.ncy y.e Govern.r George Plater Esq.r and made Oath upon y.e holy Evangelists that y.e above is y.e truth and nothing but y.e truth W Bladen Clk Councill May y.e 25.th 1698 Maryland fs These are to Certifie that Co.ll Nicholas Nicholas Greenbury late P.rsident of Maryland has given caution to me George Plater receiver of Petuxant District that the sume of one hundred and fifty pounds Ordered him by S.r Edmond Andross while Govern.r for his sollary as President shall be refunded when Ordered by his Maj.ty In wittness whereof I hereunto sett my hand George Plater May y.e 28.th 1698 Then came before me (George Plater Esq.r) his Excell.ncy y.e Govern.r and made oath upon y.e holy Evangelists that y.e above Certificate is just and true W Bladen Clk Cout Maryland fs Know all Men by these presents that wee S.r Thomas Lawrence Barronet & principle secret.ry of Maryland and Henry Jowles of Ann Arr.ll County Gentl are holden and firmly bound unto his Ex.ncy Francis Nicholson Esq.r Cap.t Gen.ll and Govern.r in Chiefe of this his Maj.ties Province of Maryland in the full sume of five hundred pounds good and Lawfull Money of England to be paid to y.e said Francis Nicholson his heires or successors Governors of Maryland to the which paym.t well and truly to be made Wee bind our selves our heires Ex.rs and Admin.rs joyntly and severally for and in the whole firmly by these p.rsents sealed with our seales and dated this 21.th day of May Anno Domini 1698 The Condicon of this obligacon is such that whereas y.e above names Francis Nicholson Esq.r Gover.r of Maryland as af.d hath Granted unto the above bound S.r Thomas Lawrence a pmitt to transport himself out of this Province with Directions to all Masters of Ships and other vessells that they Transport y.e said S.r Thomas as af.d In as much as his said Ex.ncy Francis Nicholson Esq.r hath taken suffitient caution and security for the paym.t of such Debts (if any) as y.e said S.r Thomas Lawrence did owe in this Province according to the act of assembly of this Province If therefore the said S.r Thomas Lawrence and Henry Jowles or either of them their heires or assignes shall in all respects Indempnifie his said Ex.ncy Francis Nicholson Esq.r for his Granting the s.d Pmitt or Lycense to the s.d S.r Thomas Lawrence according to the tennor of y.e s.d act of assembly that then this obligacon shall be voyde or else to stand in full force and virtue in Law Sealed and Delivered in p.rsence Thomas Lawrence (sealed) of us W Bladen Hen Jowles (sealed) Christopher Gregory |
