587) 597 In Testimony Whereof the said Lionell Copley Esq.r hath hereunto sett his hand and affixed his seale the day & yeare above written L Copley (sealed) Sealed and Delivered in the p.rsence of Henry Smith John Llewellin Com.rs Letter to S.t Tho Lawrence After our hearty Comendacons his Maj.ty haveing graciously pleased by his Letters Patents under the great Seale of England to grant unto you the office and place of Secretary of their Maj.tys Province of Maryland in America These are in his Maj.tys name and by his Express Comand to direct and require you and the Secretary of their Maj.tys said Province for the time being to send unto us a perticuler account of all things that shall pass or be transacted within yo.r said office or secretary and Copys of such lawes Acts of Governm.t and publick orders as shall be made from time to time together with Copys of the Journall of the Councill and all such papers as are or ought to be entred and registred within yo.r said office to the end Wee whom his Maj.ty hath appoynted a Comittee of his Privy Councill for trade and forreigne plantacons may be the better enabled to performe the duty incumbent on us which accounts and Copys are to be transmitted by you unto Us quarterly or at such times in the yeare as any oppertunitys offer as alsoe Duplicates thereof by the next succeeding Conveyance And that You and others whom it may concerne may at all times give due obedience hereunto You are to make Entry of this our letter in the books belonging to yo.r said Office of secretary whereof you are not to faile And soe wee bid you farewell from the Councill Chamber at whitehall this Eleaventh day of December 1691 Yo.r Loveing Freinds To our Loveing Freind S.t Tho Lawrence Ban.t Carmallen Secretary of their Maj.tys Province of Maryland John Louther In America Is Powle 23.d December 1692 H Goodrick To all People to whom these p.rsents shall come Wee the commissioners for managing and causing to be Leavied and Collected theire Majesties Customes Subsides and other Duties in this his Kingdome of England Greeting Know Yee that Wee the said Comiss.rs have by vertue of an Act of Parliament made the 25.th yeare of the Reign of King Charles the second entituled an act for the Encouragement of the Eastland and Greenland Trades and for better securing the Plantation Trade And in pursuance of the Authority an Directions to us Given by the Right Hon.ble the Lord Commissioners of theire Maj.ties Treasury Deputed and Impowred and doe hereby Depute and Impower George Plater to be Collector of all the Rates Duties & Impositions ariseing and growing due to theire Maj.ties at Patuxent River in theire Maj.ties Province of Province Maryland by Vertue of the sd act whereby he hath power to enter into any shipp Bottom Boate or other Vessell as also into any shopp house Warehouse Hostery |
