member appointed on or before April 1, 1970, for the ten
or more years of continuous service requirement.

SECTION VII. Section 46 (e) , title "Spouse's
Benefits", is hereby amended to read as follows:

(e) Spouse's Benefits.

(1)    Spouse's benefits in the event of
the death of an active member after normal retirement
date. A surviving spouse who is the designated
beneficiary of a member who dies on or after November 1,
1971, after normal retirement date, may elect within
sixty days after the member's death, a spouse's benefit
equal to the yearly amount of benefits which could have
been payable to the spouse if the member had retired
immediately before death and had elected a 100% Joint and
Survivor pension option. If the member meets the
requirements for the benefit as specifically provided in
Section 33—46 (a) (2) the spouse shall also be entitled
to receive a death benefit equal to fifty percent of the
member's average final earnings.

(2)    Spouse's benefit in the event of
the death of an active full—time member after elective
early retirement date.

A surviving spouse who is the
designated beneficiary of a member who dies on or after
November 1, 1971, in lieu of the member contributions
with credited interest, may elect within sixty days after
the member's death, a spouse's benefit equal to the
yearly amount of benefits which could have been payable
to the spouse if the member had retired on early
retirement immediately before death and had elected a
100% Joint and Survivor pension option. If the member
meets the requirements for the benefit as specifically
provided in Section 33—46 (a) (2) the spouse shall also
be entitled to receive a death benefit equal to fifty
percent of the member's average final earnings.

SECTION VIII. Sections 47 (a), title
"Responsibility for administration", 47 (b) title "Rules
and regulations for administration", 47 (c), title
"Payment of expenses", 47 (d), title "Legal advisor of
the County Personnel Board", 47 (e), title "Certification
by Personnel Director", 47 (f), title "Records", and 47
(g), title "Hearings", are hereby amended to read as
follows:

(a) Responsibility for administration. The
Chief Administrative Officer shall be responsible for the
administration of the retirement system established by
this Article. The Personnel Director shall be
