pay over to the Treasurer all monies collected or
received by him, if any there be, as such [bailiff]
POLICE OFFICER; he shall preserve the peace and good
order of the town, may make arrests and serve warrants
and other legal processes within [and one mile beyond]
the corporate limits of the town, except the line in the
river, and for these purposes he is hereby invested with
[the same power and authority as any constable has under
the laws of this State, and he shall be allowed the same
fees as are allowed constables for similar services and
said fees shall be taxes as part of the costs] POLICE
POWERS.
369. Clerk and [bailiff] POLICE OFFICER; compensation.
The said Commissioners may allow their clerk and
their [bailiff] POLICE OFFICER such compensation as to
them may seem proper.
370. Oath of Office.
The Commissioners and all other officers of the
Corporation, including the judges of election, shall,
before entering upon the duties of their respective
offices, take and subscribe an oath before [some justice
of the peace] A JUDGE OF THE DISTRICT COURT or notary
public of Dorchester County, that they will diligently
and faithfully to the best of their abilities, skill and
judgment and without favor of affection, partiality or
prejudice, perform the duties of their office, and shall
file a certificate [from the justice of the peace or
notary public of] SHOWING the taking of such oaths among
the records of the corporation, and the said oath and
certificate shall be recorded among the minutes of the
proceedings of the Commissioners.
[371. Appeals on electoral matters.]
The said Commissioners shall determine all questions
arising from or under any election held under this
sub—title, but any person feeling aggrieved by their
decision may appeal therefrom to the Circuit Court of
Dorchester County at any time within ten days from such
decision, which court shall hear and determine such
appeal and who shall pay the cost thereof.]
373. Violation of ordinances.
If any person or persons shall wilfully violate any
ordinance passed by said Commissioners, [it is hereby
made the duty of the baliff to obtain from some justice
of the peace of Dorchester County a writ for the arrest
of the person or persons so offending; and he shall
arrest the offender or offenders and take him or them
