MUNICIPAL CHARTERS

appointment shall be for a period of two months from the
date thereof and who shall conduct the election according
to the election laws of the State of Maryland; except,
that the hours for holding the election shall be from
three o'clock to seven o'clock p.m. except, further, that
one of said judges may act as clerk of said election; and
except, further that no registration shall he required to
entitle any adult citizen offering to vote to have his or
her ballot received and counted. The said judges of
election shall, at least seven days prior to the holding
of any town election, give notice to the voter of Vienna
of the time and place of holding such election, by
posting printed notices thereof at no less than six
conspicuous places in said town of Vienna. The said
judges of election shall, at least three days prior to
the holding of any town election, post, at not less than
six conspicuous places in said town of Vienna, [sample
ballots, printed in accordance with the provisions herein
relating to official ballots, containing the names of all
candidates as well as all questions to be submitted to
the voters of said election] GIVING NOTICE OF THE NAMES
OF ALL THE CANDIDATES AS THEY ARE TO APPEAR UPON THE
OFFICIAL BALLOT OR VOTING MACHINE. SUCH JUDGES OF
ELECTION SHALL, HOWEVER, BEFORE OPENING THE POLLS, TAKE
THE OATH BEFORE A JUDGE OF THE DISTRICT COURT OR NOTARY
PUBLIC FOR DORCHESTER COUNTY TO PERMIT EVERY QUALIFIED
VOTER TO VOTE, AND NONE OTHER, AND A MAJORITY OF SAID
JUDGES SHALL HAVE POWER TO DO ALL THINGS COMMITTED UNTO
SAID JUDGES. At the closing of the polls on election
day, the said judges of election shall forthwith
carefully count all [ballots] VOTES cast and shall, at
the close of such count, certify over their proper hands
and seals to the Commissioners of Vienna then holding
office the result of said election, and the [five] THREE
eligible persons receiving the greatest number of votes
shall be declared elected, and the said Commissioners
shall cause a record of the vote to be entered on their
record proceedings.

368. [Bailiff] POLICE OFFICER; appointment, duties,
bond.

The said Commissioners [shall] MAY annually
[appoint] HIRE a [bailiff] POLICE OFFICER, and may also
[appoint] HIRE under [bailiffs] POLICE OFFICERS as from
time to time may be necessary to preserve the good order
of the town. The said [bailiff] POLICE OFFICER shall
attend the meetings of the Board of Commissioners and
shall execute all order of the said Commissioners and
shall perform such other duties as the Commissioners may
assign him; before proceeding to act as [bailiff] POLICE
OFFICER he shall give bond in such sum as the
Commissioners shall deem proper, and at each regular
meeting of said Commissioners he shall account for and
