MUNICIPAL CHARTERS

(b) At the regular Town election the first Monday
in May 1975, [Councilmen from Wards 1, 2, and 4 shall be
elected for two years and for every two years thereafter;
Councilmen from Wards 3,5, and 6 shall be elected for
terms of 1 year each serving until the regular town
election the first Monday in May 1976 when they shall be
elected for terms of two years and for every two years
thereafter.] THE MAYOR AND ALL COUNCILMEN SHALL BE
ELECTED FOR TWO YEARS AND FOR EVERY TWO YEARS THEREAFTER.

(C) ALL CANDIDATES FOR COUNCILMEN FOR THE REGULAR
TOWN ELECTION TO BE HELD THE FIRST MONDAY IN MAY OF 1975,
AS OF THE DATE OF HIS REGISTRATION AS A CANDIDATE FOR
SAID OFFICE SHALL RESIDE WITHIN THE GEOGRAPHICAL
BOUNDARIES OF THE WARD FOR WHICH HE SHALL BECOME A
CANDIDATE AND SHALL OTHERWISE MEET ALL QUALIFICATIONS OF
COUNCILMEN CONTAINED WITHIN THIS CHARTER.

63-16.3.

(a) The election for all elective officers shall
be held BIENNIALLY on the first Monday in May at a place
or places to be designated by the Mayor and Common
Council, and notices of such designation must be posted
in three (3) public places at least ten (10) days before
said election. Such polling places shall remain open for
a minimum of twelve (12) consecutive hours, or longer, at
the discretion of the Mayor and Common Council. Such
election shall be conducted by a sufficient number of
judges and clerks as may be deemed necessary by the Mayor
and Common Council. Such judges and clerks shall be
appointed [annually] BIENNIALLY by the Mayor and Common
Council, and shall take the oath prescribed herein for
Town officers. Suitable ballot boxes and/or voting
machines shall be provided by the Mayor and Common
Council. Immediately after the closing of the polls, the
election judges shall determine and record the vote cast
for each candidate and shall seal the ballots and/or
machine tallies. The judges shall immediately present
the record of votes cast to the Mayor and Common Council
who shall declare that person or persons elected who
shall have received the highest number of votes for their
respective office or offices. The results shall be
recorded in the minutes of the Council. In the event of
a tie vote for any office, there shall be an election on
the fourth Monday in May for the office or offices so
tied. The terms of all elective officers shall begin on
the first Monday in June next succeeding the election.
