RIVERDALE

change to Section 63—15 entitled Elections - Procedure of
the Charter of the Town of Riverdale, Maryland be
enacted:

Delete the fourth paragraph of Section 63—15
entitled Elections — Procedures beginning with the words
"No elected official" and ending with the words "from his
said employment" and substitute the following:

"NO APPOINTED OFFICIAL OF THE TOWN SHALL CONTINUE IN
SUCH POSITION AFTER BECOMING A CANDIDATE FOR NOMINATION
OR ELECTION TO ANY PUBLIC OFFICE. ANY ELECTED OFFICIAL
WHO SHALL BECOME A CANDIDATE FOR NOMINATION OR ELECTION
TO ANY PUBLIC OFFICE OTHER THAN HIS OWN INCUMBENT OFFICE
SHALL CONTINUE IN SAID INCUMBENT OFFICE ONLY UNTIL THE
FIRST MONDAY IN JUNE OF THE SAME YEAR."

RESOLUTION 73-R-15

A Resolution providing for a referendum of a Charter
Amendment adopted under Resolution 73—R—8.

WHEREAS the Charter Amendment under Res. 73—R—8,
adopted at a regular public Council meeting of the Town
of Riverdale on September 17, 1973, by a majority of all
persons elected to the legislative body, which provided
that the office of Treasurer be made appointive has been
petitioned to referendum before the expiration of forty
(40) days following its adoption and

WHEREAS the Council as the legislative body has
verified that the signatures represent more than 20% of
the voters qualified to vote in the Town's general
election,

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council as the
legislative body shall, by this resolution acted upon in
the usual course of considering resolutions at a general
public meeting, specify that the referendum question
shall be submitted to the voters at a Special Election to
be held on Monday, January 28, 1974, from 7:00 A.M. to
8:00 P.M. and that the election shall be conducted in the
same manner as a general election. The complete and
exact wording of the referendum question shall be:

To amend the Charter so that the office of
the Town Treasurer shall be made appointive.
