CHARTER AMENDMENT NO. 74-1
A RESOLUTION TO ADOPT AN AMENDMENT TO THE
CHARTER OF THE CITY OF NEW CARROLLTON, PRINCE
GEORGE'S COUNTY, MARYLAND (SECTION 9 OF ARTICLE
17 OF THE CODE OF PUBLIC LOCAL LAWS OF MARYLAND,
EVERSTINE'S 1963 EDITION, AS AMENDED) AMENDING
SUBSECTION (12) OF SECTION 11 OF SAID CHARTER,
ENTITLED "ENUMERATION OF THE SPECIFIC POWERS OF
THE COUNCIL". SUBTITLE "BUILDINGS", TO PROVIDE
THAT BUILDING PERMITS MAY BE GRANTED BY THE
MAYOR OR HIS DELEGATE.
WHEREAS, the City Council wishes to provide for the
prompt processing of City building permit
applications in the interest of convenience to
the public and of efficiency in governmental
operations; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has determined that the
above—stated purpose can best be served by
authorizing the Mayor or his delegate to review
building permit applications and to grant
building permits;
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED by the City Council of New
Carrollton that Subsection 12 of Section 11 of
the Charter of the City of New Carrollton
entitled "ENUMERATION OF THE SPECIFIC POWERS OF
THE COUNCIL", subtitle "Buildings" be amended as
follows:
(12) Buildings — To make reasonable
regulations in regard to buildings, fences, and
signs to be erected, constructed, or
reconstructed in the town, and to [grant]
AUTHORIZE ISSUANCE OF building permits [for
them;] THEREFOR; to formulate a building code
and a plumbing code and to appoint a building
inspector and a plumbing inspector, and to
require reasonable charges for permits and
inspections; to authorize and require the
