Sec. 20-27. REGISTRATION OF VOTERS
The Burgess and Commissioners of Middletown shall
cause to be maintained a registration of the legal and
qualified voters residing within the corporate limits of
the Town. Such registration shall be essential to the
right to vote at any election held under this Charter.
The Burgess and Commissioners shall annually, at least
Fourteen days prior to the first Monday of FEBRUARY OF
EACH AND EVERY YEAR, appoint Two persons to act as
officers of such registration, who shall sit as officers
of registration at such place in the Town as may be
designated by the Burgess and Commissioners. ON THE
FIRST AND THIRD MONDAYS OF FEBRUARY IN EACH AND EVERY
YEAR, the officers of registration shall sit not less
than Eight hours, from 12:00 Noon to 8:00 P. M. Ten days
public notice of such sitting and the place thereof shall
be given by advertisement published in The Valley
Register or any other newspaper published therein. In
the event there is no newspaper published in the Town,
notice shall be given by posting such notice in Ten
public places of business in the Town.
After causing the registration of the duly qualified
voters, they shall return such lists to The Burgess and
Commissioners. The registration shall indicate the full
name of the voter, the date of birth, date of
registration and the signature of the voter.. Before such
officers shall sit for this purpose, they shall go before
a duly qualified Notary Public or a Justice of the Peace
and make oath in due form of law that they will permit
the registration of such persons as are entitled under
the provisions of this Charter to be registered voters of
Middletown.
AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a complete and
exact copy of the aforegoing Resolution be posted at the
Middletown Town Office for a period of at least Forty
(40) days, commencing on the 12th day of November, 1974
and ending not earlier than the 21st day of December,
1974; and that a copy of the aforegoing Resolution be
published in The Valley Register at least four times at
weekly intervals during the aforesaid forty day period;
and that the aforegoing Resolution shall become a part of
the Municipal Charter of The Burgess and Commissioners of
Middletown on the 31st day of December, 1974, unless a
Petition requesting a referendum on the matter is
submitted to The Burgess and Commissioners of Middletown
on or before the 21st day of December, 1974, in
compliance with the provisions of Article 23—A, Section
13, of the Annotated Code of Maryland.
