MUNICIPAL CHARTERS
Gaithersburg, in public meeting assembled, that Section 8
of the Charter is amended to read as follows:
The Mayor shall serve as President of the Council.
He may take part in all discussions of the Council, but
shall have no vote on any decision by the Council. The
Council shall elect a Vice—president of the Council from
among its members who shall act as President in the
absence of the President WHO SHALL BE ENTITLED TO VOTE ON
ANY DECISION BY THE COUNCIL. At any meeting at which the
President and Vice—president shall both be absent the
Council may elect one of its members to act as President
Pro Tem WHO SHALL BE ENTITLED TO VOTE ON ANY DECISION BY
THE COUNCIL,

ORDINANCE NO. CA-6-74
AMENDING SECTION 11(a) OF THE CITY CHARTER
REDUCING FROM FIFTEEN TO TEN DAYS THE MINIMUM
PERIOD OF NOTICE OF A HEARING BY THE COUNCIL
ON A PROPOSED ORDINANCE.
BE IT ORDAINED by the Mayor and Council of
Gaithersburg, in public meeting assembled that that
Section 11(a) of the Charter is amended to read as
follows:
(a) A proposed ordinance may be introduced by a
majority of the members of the Council present and
voting. Each proposed ordinance shall be the subject of
a public hearing. Notice of the hearing and a summary of
the substance of the proposed ordinance shall be
published in one or more newspapers of general
circulation in the city at least once, not less than
[fifteen] TEN days prior to the hearing.
