MUNICIPAL CHAPTERS

Section 20 of the Charter be changed to Section 19, and
is hereby amended to read:

"(Registration.) There shall be a
registration on the first Saturday [in May 1963, and
every year thereafter,] OF EVERY APRIL AND SEPTEMBER [of]
FOR qualified persons not registered to vote. [In
addition on election day 1963 and 1964 the registration
books shall be available at the polls to register any
person who is eligible to be registered.] If necessary
for the performance of registration or the convenience of
the citizens of the Town, the [Commission] COUNCIL may
designate additional days as registration days.
Registration shall be permanent, and no person shall be
entitled to vote in town elections unless he is
registered. It shall be the duty of the Board of
Supervisors of Elections to keep the registration lists
up to date by striking from the lists persons known to
have died or to have moved out of the Town. The
[Commission] COUNCIL is hereby authorized and directed,
by ordinance, to adopt and enforce any provisions
necessary to establish and maintain a system of permanent
registration, and to provide for a re—registration when
necessary."

SECTION 13. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that former
Section 23 of the Charter be changed to new Section 22,
and is hereby amended to read:

[(Election of Commissioners.) On the last
Saturday in May, 1963, and every year thereafter, the
qualified voters of the Town shall elect one person as
Commissioner to serve for a term of three years.]
"(ELECTION OF MAYOR AND COUNCIL.) ON THE FIRST SATURDAY
OF OCTOBER, 1974, AND EVERY FOUR YEARS THEREAFTER, THE
QUALIFIED VOTERS OF THE TOWN SHALL ELECT ONE PERSON MAYOR
FOR A TERM OF FOUR YEARS. ON THE FIRST SATURDAY OF
OCTOBER, 1974, THE QUALIFIED VOTERS OF THE TOWN SHALL
ELECT FOUR PERSONS AS COUNCILMEN: TWO FOR A TERM OF FOUR
YEARS AND TWO FOR A TERM OF TWO YEARS. THE TWO PERSONS
RECEIVING THE FIRST AND SECOND HIGHEST NUMBER OF VOTES
SHALL FILL THE FOUR YEAR TERMS AND THE TWO PERSONS
RECEIVING THE THIRD AND FOURTH HIGHEST NUMBER OF VOTES
SHALL FILL THE TWO YEAR TERMS. ON THE FIRST SATURDAY OF
OCTOBER, 1976, AND EVERY TWO YEARS THEREAFTER, THE
QUALIFIED VOTERS OF THE TOWN SHALL ELECT TWO PERSONS AS
COUNCILMEN FOR A TERM OF FOUR YEARS TO SUCCEED THOSE
WHOSE TERMS ARE AT THAT TIME EXPIRING."

SECTION 14. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that former
Section 24 of the Charter be changed to new Section 23,
and is hereby amended to read:
