QUALIFIED. THE REGULAR TERMS OF THE MAYOR AND COUNCILMEN
SHALL EXPIRE ON THE FIRST SATURDAY IN NOVEMBER FOLLOWING
THE ELECTION OF THEIR SUCCESSORS. THE COMMISSIONERS
HOLDING OFFICE AT THE TIME THIS CHARTER BECOMES EFFECTIVE
SHALL CONTINUE TO HOLD OFFICE AS COUNCILMEN FOR THE TERM
FOR WHICH THEY WERE ELECTED UNTIL THE SUCCEEDING COUNCIL
TAKES OFFICE UNDER THE PROVISIONS OF THIS CHARTER. ALL
CANDIDATES FOR THE OFFICES OF MAYOR AND COUNCILMEN SHALL
BE QUALIFIED VOTERS OF THE TOWN."
SECTION 3. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Section 4 of
the Charter which reads as follows, be and is hereby
repealed.
[(Qualifications of Commissioners.
Commissioners shall have resided in the Town at least one
year, shall own real property located within the
Corporate limits with an assessed value of at least
one—hundred ($100.00) dollars immediately preceding their
election and shall be qualified voters of the Town.]
SECTION 4. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that former
Section 5 of the Charter be changed to new Section 4, and
be amended to read:
"(Salary of [Commissioners] MAYOR AND
COUNCILMEN.) [Each Commissioner] THE MAYOR AND COUNCIL
shall receive an annual salary which shall be [ equal for
all Commissioners and shall be] as specified from time to
time by an ordinance passed by the [Commission] MAYOR AND
COUNCIL in the regular course of its business; provided,
however, that the salary specified at the time any
[Commissioner] COUNCILMAN takes office shall not be
changed during the period for which the [Commissioner]
COUNCILMAN was elected. An ordinance making any change
in the salary paid to the several [Commissioners]
COUNCILMEN, either by way of increase or decrease, shall
take effect only as to members of the [Commission]
COUNCIL who shall be elected or re-elected to office
after the passage of such salary change."
SECTION 5. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that former
Section 6 of the Charter be changed to new Section 5, and
is hereby amended to read:
"(Meetings of the [Commission] COUNCIL.) The
said [Commissioners] COUNCIL shall have power to meet and
adjourn from time to time as they shall think proper,
except that they shall meet at least once in every month.
