VETOES

Assessment Appeals

AS ACT concerning

Montgomery County — Property Tax

Assessment Appeal Board

MC 48-75

FOR the purpose of providing that in Montgomery County
the Property Tax Assessment Appeal Board may hear
appeals in matters relating to revenue and taxes as
the County Council has authorized or may authorize
by law; and providing that after a certain date
Montgomery County may not increase the jurisdiction
of the Board without the approval of a certain
person.

May 15, 1975.
Honorable John Hanson Briscoe
Speaker of the House of Delegates
State House
Annapolis, Maryland

Dear Mr. Speaker:

In accordance with Article II, Section 17 of the
Maryland Constitution, I have today vetoed House Bill
1137.

This bill authorizes the Property Tax Assessment
Appeal Board of Montgomery County to hear certain appeals
in matters relating to revenue and taxes in accordance
with the authorization of the County Council.

House Bill 239, which was enacted by the General
Assembly and signed by me on April 8, 1975, is a
statewide law which grants jurisdiction to all property
tax assessment appeal boards to hear appeals in tax
matters as authorized by the county or Baltimore City, as
the case may be. The purpose of House Bill 1137 is thus
achieved by the enactment and signing of House Bill 239.

Therefore, it is unnecessary for me to sign House
Bill 1137.

Sincerely,

/s/ Marvin Mandel

Governor
