A HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION concerning
The Primitive Area at Point Lookout State Park
FOR the purpose of requesting the Department of Natural
Resources to develop and recommend an environmental
and recreational plan for the land referred to by
Point Lookout State Park, as the "Primitive Area".
WHEREAS, The "Primitive Area" of Point Lookout State
Park holds significant environmental and recreational
importance for the populace of the State; and
WHEREAS, This "Primitive Area" would be threatened,
both environmentally and as a camping area, if new
channels were cut across it or if it were mismanaged as a
recreational area; and
WHEREAS, The Department of Natural Resources is
responsible for the preservation, enhancement,
development and use of waterfront resources in Maryland
including the management of resources affecting the
Chesapeake Bay; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, That
this Body considers it in the best interest of the State
to have the Department of Natural Resources to study; the
problems of cutting another channel across "The Primitive
Area"; the cost and advisability of repairing the
existing channel and opening it to marine traffic between
Lake Conoy and the Potomac River; the cost and
advisability of opening, repairing and improving
campsites in the area that have been closed to campers;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That the Department of Natural Resources
be requested by a copy of this Resolution to report its
findings [[and recommendations]] to the 1976 Session of
the General Assembly of Maryland.
