JOINT RESOLUTIONS

the State receive an adequate supply of human food; and
be it further

RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution be sent to
the Governor of the State of Maryland.]] the Legislative
Council to create a special joint legislative committee
to undertake a study of the inadequate food supply and
nutrition problems of the needy.

WHEREAS, All residents of this State should be
assured and provided a decent and reasonable level of
nutrition; and

WHEREAS, Over six percent of the State's population
are food stamp recipients, and many of those who are
eligible are not receiving food stamps; and

WHEREAS, Over eight percent of the State's families
are existing below the poverty income level, and
increasing inflation places greater numbers of families
at the poverty level; and

WHEREAS, Many people and families in the State do
not have an adequate supply of food due to their low
level of income; and

WHEREAS, The present programs for providing needy
people with food appear to be inadequate to meet the
needs of providing a minimum standard of nutrition; now,
therefore, be it

RESOLVED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, That
every effort should be made to alleviate the food and
nutrition problem existing in the State; and be it
further

RESOLVED, That a special joint committee of the
Legislative Council of the General Assembly, consisting
of three members appointed by the President of the Senate
and three members appointed by the Speaker of the House,
be created to undertake a study of the inadequate food
supply and the nutrition problems of the needy in the
State, and make recommendations to the 1976 General
Assembly; and be it further

RESOLVED, That the State Department of Health and
Mental Hygiene, and all other State departments capable
of contributing to the study, are hereby called upon to
assist the special committee to identify the specific
areas of the food and nutrition problem, as well as
remedies to the problem; and be it further

RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution be sent to
the Governor, the President of the Senate, and to the
