FOR the purpose of providing that the retirement benefits
given to certain correctional officers by Chapter
697 of 1974 apply to correctional officers of
Patuxent Institution as well as of the Division of
Correction, and providing that the benefits apply to
any retirement by a Patuxent Institution
correctional officer on or after July 1, 1974.
BY repealing and re—enacting, with amendments,
Article 73B — Pensions
Section 11 (19)
Annotated Code of Maryland
(1970 Replacement Volume and 1974 Supplement)
SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That Section 11(19) of Article 73B - Pensions,
of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1970 Replacement
Volume and 1974 Supplement) be and it is hereby repealed
and re—enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:
Article 73B — Pensions

(19) Any correctional officer serving in any of the
first six job classifications who has completed 20 years
of creditable service and who has served as a
correctional officer in one of these classifications for
five or more years immediately preceding retirement may
retire and receive a retirement allowance equal to 1/55
of his average final compensation multiplied by the
number of years of service. Retirement for a
correctional officer in these classifications is
mandatory when he attains the age of 60 years; however,
year—to—year extensions may be permitted beyond age 60
with the approval of the Commissioner of Correction FOR
CORRECTIONAL OFFICERS OF THE DIVISION OF CORRECTION
[[OR]] AND THE DIRECTOR OF PATUXENT INSTITUTION FOR
CORRECTIONAL OFFICERS OF THAT INSTITUTION.
The benefits for ordinary disability for any
correctional officer in these classifications, who has
served as a correctional officer in one of these
classifications for five years immediately preceding
retirement, shall be computed in the manner described in
the subsection. The benefit for accidental disability
shall be computed as provided by Section 11(7) of this
article. In cases of vested retirement allowance as
provided under Section 11(15), the benefits payable to
any correctional officer in these classifications who has
served as a correctional officer in one of these
