59A-1.

(a) The sum of [fifteen thousand dollars
($15,000,00)] $25,000 less any lump sum death benefit,
exclusive of any return of contributions, payable by the
State or any political subdivision shall be paid to the
surviving spouse or children of any law—enforcement
officer of the State or of any political subdivision of
the State who is killed in the performance of his duties.
This sum shall be in addition to any workmen's
compensation benefits.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
shall take effect July 1, 1975.

FOR the purpose of requiring death benefits for law
enforcement officers killed in the line of duty be
paid to the dependents or to the estate.

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That new Section [[59A-2]]59A-1(c) be and it is
hereby added to Article 41 — Governor — Executive and
Administrative Departments, of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1971 Replacement Volume and 1974 Supplement) to
read as follows:
