Vehicle Laws - School Bus Drivers

FOR the purpose of requiring a periodic vision test for
school bus drivers and providing for issuance of a
certificate as evidence of compliance with certain
vision requirements.

BY adding to

Article 66 1/2 - Vehicle Laws

Section 6-119

Annotated Code of Maryland

(1970 Replacement Volume and 1974 Supplement)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That new Section 6-119 be and it is hereby
added to Article 66 1/2 - Vehicle Laws, of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1970 Replacement Volume and 1974
Supplement) to read as follows:

Article 66 1/2 — Vehicle Laws

6-119.

A.       EFFECTIVE SEPTEMBER 1, 1975, NO PERSON MAY DRIVE
A SCHOOL BUS UPON A HIGHWAY OF THIS STATE UNLESS THEY
HOLD:

(1)         A VALID DRIVER'S LICENSE ISSUED PURSUANT
TO THIS ARTICLE OF A CLASS AUTHORIZING THEM TO DRIVE THE
PARTICULAR TYPE OF VEHICLE; AND,

(2)            A VALID CERTIFICATE ISSUED BY THE
ADMINISTRATOR STATING THAT THE HOLDER MEETS THE VISION
REQUIREMENTS OF § 6-110(A) AND (C) OF THIS ARTICLE.

B.           UPON APPLICATION BY A PERSON HOLDING A VALID
DRIVER'S LICENSE ISSUED PURSUANT TO THIS ARTICLE, THE
ADMINISTRATOR SHALL ISSUE AT NO CHARGE A CERTIFICATE
VALID FOR FOUR YEARS, STATING THAT THE APPLICANT MEETS
THE VISION REQUIREMENTS OF § 6-110 (A) AND (C) IF:

(1)        THE APPLICANT IS FOUND TO MEET THESE

VISION REQUIREMENTS UPON BEING TESTED BY THE

ADMINISTRATION; OR

(2)        THE ADMINISTRATOR FINDS ACCEPTABLE A

WRITTEN CERTIFICATION BY A [[PHYSISIAN]] PHYSICIAN.
OPTOMETRIST, OR OPHTHALMOLOGIST LICENSED TO PRACTICE IN
THIS STATE THAT THE APPLICANT MEETS THESE VISION
REQUIREMENTS.
