OUTSIDE OF URBAN AREAS BEYOND 660 FEET [[OR]] OF THE
NEAREST EDGE OF THE RIGHT-OF-WAY OF THE FEDERAL-AID
PRIMARY SYSTEM, FOR THE PURPOSE OF ERECTING OR
MAINTAINING THEREON ANY NEW OUTDOOR ADVERTISING SIGN
WHICH IS VISIBLE FROM THE MAIN TRAVELED WAY OF THE
HIGHWAY, AND ERECTED WITH THE PURPOSE OF ITS MESSAGE
BEING READ FROM SUCH MAIN TRAVELED WAY, UNLESS OTHERWISE
PROVIDED IN THIS SECTION.
(a) General: The following signs shall not be
permitted:
(i) Signs which imitate or resemble any official
traffic sign, signal, or device.
(ii) Signs which are erected or maintained upon
trees or painted or drawn upon rocks or other natural
features.
(iii) Signs which are erected or maintained in such
a manner as to obscure, or otherwise interfere with the
effectiveness of an official traffic sign, signal, or
device, or obstruct or interfere with the driver's view
of approaching, merging or intersecting traffic.
(b) Size of signs:
(i) The maximum area for any one sign shall be 1000
square feet with a maximum height of 25 feet and maximum
length of 50 feet, inclusive of any border and trim but
excluding ornamental base or apron supports and other
structural members.
(ii) The area shall be measured by the smallest
square, rectangle, triangle, circle or combination
thereof which will encompass the entire sign.
(iii) A sign structure may contain one or two signs
per facing and may be placed double—faced, back—to—back
or V—type, but the total area of any facing may not
exceed 800 square feet.
(iv) Signs which exceed 400 square feet in area may
not be double—faced (abutting and facing the same
direction) .
(c) Spacing of signs:
(1) Signs may not be located within 250 feet of
public parks, public forests, playgrounds, and cemeteries
which are adjacent to the federal—aid primary system of
highways.
