BY repealing and re—enacting, with amendments,
Article 25 — County Commissioners
Section 51 (j)
Annotated Code of Maryland
(1973 Replacement Volume and 1974 Supplement)
SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That Section 51 (j) of Article 25 - County
Commissioners, of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1973
Replacement Volume and 1974 Supplement) be and it is
hereby repealed and re—enacted, with amendments, to read
as follows:
Article 25 — County Commissioners
51.
(j) (1) The county treasurer of Garrett County
shall receive an annual salary of $8,500 [[out of which
he]] [[shall pay the expenses of his office to the extent
that they are not otherwise specifically provided for by
law]]. Subject to the approval of the County
Commissioners, the county treasurer shall appoint a
deputy treasurer. IT IS FURTHER PROVIDED THAT WHEN AND AT
SUCH TIME AS THE COUNTY TREASURER SHALL DETERMINE THAT HE
IS IN NEED OF ADDITIONAL ASSISTANCE, THE COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS SHALL PROVIDE THE ADDITIONAL EMPLOYEE OR
EMPLOYEES REQUIRED AND SHALL PAY SUCH EMPLOYEE OR
EMPLOYEES A SALARY WHICH SHALL BE DETERMINED BY THE
COUNTY COMMISSIONERS.
(2) The deputy treasurer [shall] MAY not be
related to the county treasurer by blood or marriage, and
before entering upon his duties shall execute a bond as
required by the Public Local Laws of Garrett County. The
deputy treasurer shall have a thorough knowledge of
bookkeeping and related subjects, and the duties of the
deputy treasurer shall be prescribed by the county
treasurer. The deputy treasurer shall receive an annual
salary from the County Commissioners not [to exceed
$4,200.00] LESS THAN $4,200, which is to be paid in
equal monthly installments.
[[(3) The County Commissioners shall allow [said]
THE treasurer [$400.00] $400 annually for the expense of
secretarial services in making out tax bills.]]
SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
shall take effect July 1, 1975.
