AN ACT concerning

Consumer Protection — Outlawing Service Contracts as a
Condition of Sale of Merchandise

FOR the purpose of making it an unlawful practice to
require as a condition of sale of any merchandise
that the purchaser enter into a contract for the
service of that merchandise.

Article — Commercial Law

Section 13-311

Annotated Code of Maryland

(As enacted by Chapter_______(HB 26) of the

Acts of the General Assembly of 1975)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That new Section 13—311 be and it is hereby
added to Article — Commercial Law, of the Annotated Code

of Maryland (As enacted by Chapter____(HB 26) of the Acts

of the General Assembly of 1975) to read as follows:

Article — Commercial Law

13-311.

A [[PERSON]] SELLER MAY NOT REQUIRE AS A CONDITION
OF SALE OF ANY MERCHANDISE THAT THE PURCHASER OF THE
MERCHANDISE ENTER INTO A CONTRACT FOR THE SERVICE OF THAT
MERCHANDISE.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
shall take effect July 1, 1975.
