AN ACT concerning
State Scholarship Board — Membership
FOR the purpose of providing for two additional members
on the State Scholarship Board; and clarifying
language.
BY repealing and re—enacting, with amendments,
Article 77A — Higher Education
Section 54(a)
Annotated Code of Maryland

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That Section 54(a) of Article 77A - Higher
Education, of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1969
Replacement Volume and 1974 Supplement) be and it is
hereby repealed and re—enacted, with amendments, to read
as follows:
Article 77A — Higher Education
54.
(a) There is [established the] A State Scholarship
Board, consisting of [seven] NINE persons [to be]
appointed by the Governor. The membership of the Board
[shall consist] CONSISTS of one president of a State
college or university, or his nominee; one president of a
private college or university, or his nominee; ONE
PRESIDENT OF A COMMUNITY COLLEGE, OR HIS NOMINEE; one
representative of the public high schools located in the
State; A FINANCIAL AID OFFICER OF A COLLEGE WHICH IS
RECOGNIZED AND APPROVED AS SUCH BY THE MARYLAND COUNCIL
FOR HIGHER EDUCATION AND WHICH PROVIDES A COURSE OF STUDY
LEADING TO THE GRANTING OF A POST SECONDARY DEGREE OR
DIPLOMA; and four citizens of the State chosen for their
interest in higher education, but not employed by,
professionally affiliated with, or members of the
governing boards of, any institutions of higher learning
located in the State. The Governor shall designate one
member as chairman. Each member of the Board shall serve
without compensation, but shall be reimbursed for
expenses necessarily incurred in performing his duties
under this subtitle.
