Section 15(g) be and it is hereby added to Article 77A —
Higher Education of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1969
Replacement Volume and 1974 Supplement) to read as
follows:

Article 77A — Higher Education

15.

(G) (1) A MEMBER OF THE UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND
POLICE IS AND HAS THE POWERS OF A PEACE AND POLICE
OFFICER ONLY ON PROPERTY OWNED, LEASED, OPERATED, OR
UNDER THE CONTROL OF THE UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND.

(2)    MEMBERS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND
POLICE MAY NOT ACT ON PROPERTY WHICH IS NOT OWNED,
LEASED, OPERATED, OR UNDER THE CONTROL OF THE UNIVERSITY
OF MARYLAND EXCEPT (A) WHEN IN HOT PURSUIT OF A SUSPECTED
OFFENDER; (B) [[WHEN IN SEARCH OF AN OFFENDER WANTED FOR
A CRIME COMMITTED ON PROPERTY OWNED, LEASED, OPERATED, OR
UNDER THE CONTROL OF THE UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND, OR WHEN
SEEKING TO INTERVIEW A WITNESS OR SUPPOSED WITNESS TO A
CRIME COMMITTED ON PROPERTY OWNED, LEASED, OPERATED, OR
UNDER THE CONTROL OF THE UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND; (C)]]
WHEN NECESSARY IN ORDER TO FACILITATE THE ORDERLY INGRESS
OR EGRESS OF TRAFFIC TO AND FROM PROPERTY OWNED, LEASED,
OPERATED, OR UNDER THE CONTROL OF THE UNIVERSITY OF
MARYLAND; [[(D)]] (C) WHEN SPECIFICALLY REQUESTED OR
PERMITTED TO SO ACT BY THE CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER OR THE
CHIEF POLICE OFFICER OF ANY [[POLITICAL SUBDIVISION; OR
(E)]] COUNTY; OR (D) WHEN ORDERED TO SO ACT BY THE
GOVERNOR.

(3)    THE BOARD OF REGENTS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF
MARYLAND, IN CONSULTATION WITH THE SUPERINTENDENT OF THE
MARYLAND STATE POLICE AND THE MARYLAND POLICE TRAINING
COMMISSION, SHALL ESTABLISH AND PROMULGATE STANDARDS,
QUALIFICATIONS AND PREREQUISITES OF CHARACTER, TRAINING,
EDUCATION, HUMAN AND PUBLIC RELATIONS AND EXPERIENCE FOR
THE UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND POLICE, INCLUDING STANDARDS
FOR THE PERFORMANCE OF THEIR DUTIES. HOWEVER, THE STATUS
OF ANY PRESENTLY QUALIFIED CURRENT MEMBER OF THE
UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND POLICE MAY NOT BE AFFECTED IN THE
FUTURE BY STANDARDS ESTABLISHED AND PROMULGATED RELATING
TO THE MINIMUM HIRING QUALIFICATIONS OF UNIVERSITY OF
MARYLAND POLICE OFFICERS. TO THE EXTENT PRACTICAL THE
BOARD OF REGENTS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND SHALL
ESTABLISH AND PROMULGATE STANDARDS WHICH ARE CONSISTENT
WITH THE STANDARDS FOR THE MARYLAND STATE POLICE. THE
UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND SHALL ESTABLISH RULES AND
REGULATIONS GOVERNING THE OPERATION AND CONDUCT FOR THE
UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND POLICE WHICH ARE CONSISTENT WITH
THE STANDARDS ESTABLISHED BY THE BOARD OF REGENTS.
MEMBERS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF MARYLAND POLICE SHALL
