AN ACT concerning

Motor Vehicle Insurance — Group Plans

FOR the purpose of [[exempting motor vehicle insurance
from certain restrictions on group insurance plans]]

empowering the Commissioner to promulgate

regulations relating to group property or casualty
insurance on motor vehicles and correcting language.

BY repealing and re-enacting,, with amendments,

Section 231

Preamble

WHEREAS, The State of Maryland has legislated and
reformed motor vehicle insurance and recognizes that
much more work must be done in the area of motor
vehicle insurance premium costs; and

WHEREAS, One method of reducing premium costs is by
lowering administrative costs and commissions
through group insurance;; and

WHEREAS, It is the responsibility of the Insurance
Commissioner to ascertain that group insurance
cannot be cancelled without just cause and his
statutory authority is not restricted by passage of
group motor vehicle insurance legislation; now,
therefore,

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That Section 23 1 of Article 48A - Insurance
Code, of the Annotated Coda of Maryland (1972 Replacement
Volume and 1973 Supplement) be and it is hereby repealed
and re—enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

Article 48A - Insurance Code
231.

(a) No insurer, whether an authorized insurer or
an unauthorized insurer, shall make available through any
rating plan or form, property, casualty or surety
insurance, [[EXCEPT PROPERTY OR CASUALTY INSURANCE ON
MOTOR VEHICLES,]] to any firm, corporation, or
association of individuals, any preferred rate or premium
