LEAST ONE SHALL HAVE BEEN UNDER THE JURISDICTION OF THE
DEPARTMENT OF JUVENILE SERVICES. THE SIX ADDITIONAL
MEMBERS OF THE ADVISORY BOARD FIRST APPOINTED SHALL SERVE
IN THE FOLLOWING MANNER: TWO MEMBERS TO SERVE TERMS OF
ONE YEAR EACH BEGINNING JULY 1, 1974; TWO MEMBERS TO
SERVE TERMS OF TWO YEARS BEGINNING JULY 1, 1974; TWO
MEMBERS TO SERVE TERMS OF THREE YEARS BEGINNING JULY 1,
1974. AFTER THE EXPIRATION OF EACH OF THESE TERMS, THE
SUCCESSORS SHALL SERVE TERMS OF THREE YEARS. CONSECUTIVE
TERMS AND VACANCIES FOR THESE SIX ADDITIONAL MEMBERS
SHALL BE HANDLED IN THE SAME MANNER AS CONSECUTIVE TERMS
AND VACANCIES ARE HANDLED IN SUBSECTION (A) OF THIS
SECTION.
SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That Section
3(b) of Article 52A — Juvenile Services, of the Annotated
Code of Maryland {1972 Replacement Volume and 1973
Supplement) be and it is hereby repealed and re—enacted,
with amendments, to read as follows:
Article 52A — Juvenile Services

(b) The Secretary of Health and Rental Hygiene
shall designate one member of the Advisory Board to serve
as chairman. The Board shall meet regularly on the call
of the chairman, not less often than once [in every three
(3) months] A MONTH. One of the members of the Board
shall serve as secretary, upon designation by the
chairman, and shall keep and preserve full and accurate
minutes of the meetings. The members of the Advisory
Board shall receive no compensation for their services,
but shall be paid the reasonable expenses necessary for
the discharge of their official duties. The Advisory
Board shall act in a general consultative and advisory
capacity to the Director of the Department of Juvenile
Services with regard to the several aspects of the
State's program of juvenile services. Included in this
responsibility is the duty to recommend to the Director
of the Department of Juvenile Services policies and
programs to improve the State's juvenile services. The
Advisory Board also shall participate in interpreting the
objectives of the Department to the public and in
planning for the development and utilization of all
available resources for the promotion of needs of the
Department.
SECTION 3. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
shall take effect July 1, 1974.
