SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this
Ordinance shall take effect forty—five (45) days from the
date it becomes law, provided that the provisions thereof
shall be applied retroactively to July 1, 1973.

AN ORDINANCE to repeal and re—enact, with amendments.
Section 1—211 (d) of the Anne Arundel County Code
(1967 Edition and Supplements), Title 1,
"Administration", Subtitle 2, "Personnel", Article
II, "Classified Service", to revise the overtime
provisions concerning Police and Fire Service
employees.

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNTY COUNCIL OF

ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY,   MARYLAND, That Section 1-211 (d) of

the Anne Arundel       County Code (1967 Edition and

Supplements), Title     1, "Administration", Subtitle 2,

"Personnel", Article   II, "Classified Service", be, and it

is hereby repealed     and re—enacted, with amendments, to
read as follows:

Section 1—211

(d) When an emergency arises within the police
[and/or fire departments] DEPARTMENT which requires
substantial overtime service by uniformed officers, such
officers in pay grades below 18 P[F] may be compensated
at the equivalent hourly rate for such hours worked in
excess of the regular work week. Authorization for such
emergency overtime compensation shall be based upon
specific written recommendation by the appointing
authority and approval of the personnel officer and the
director of administration. Emergencies of this type
shall include riots, other major civil disorders and such
