AN EMERGENCY ORDINANCE to add new Sections 18-200 through
18—205, inclusive, to the Anne Arundel County Code
(1967 Edition and Supplements), Title 18, "Traffic",
to follow immediately after Section 18—109 thereof
and to be under the new Subtitle 2, "Interference
with Emergency Equipment", to provide that it shall
be unlawful to interfere with or obstruct emergency
equipment or vehicles, establish procedures for the
removal of such obstructions, to provide penalties
for the violation thereof, and matters generally
related thereto.
SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE COUNTY COUNCIL OF
ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, MARYLAND, That new Sections 18-200
through 18—205, inclusive, be, and they are hereby added
to the Anne Arundel County Code (1967 Edition and
Supplements), Title 18, "Traffic", to follow immediately
after Section 18—109 thereof and to be under the new
Subtitle 2, "interference with Emergency Equipment", and
to read as follows:
Section 18-200
It shall be unlawful to obstruct or interfere with
the operation of any emergency vehicle or equipment, or
to obstruct access by County emergency equipment to any
fire hydrant, fire sprinkler connection, via properly
designated fire lanes on either public or private
property.
SECTION 18-200A
FOR THE PURPOSE OF THIS SUBTITLE. TERMS HEREINAFTER
SET FORTH SHALL BE DEFINED AS FOLLOWS:
(1) A FIRE LANE IS DEFINED AS A LANE REQUIRED TO
BE PERMANENTLY OPEN FOR THE INGRESS OR EGRESS OF FIRE AND
OTHER EMERGENCY VEHICLES ONLY, IN ORDER THAT FIRES MAY BE
PREVENTED OR CONTROLLED AND EXITWAYS ARE KEPT
UNOBSTRUCTED FOR LIFE SAFETY.
(2) AN EMERGENCY VEHICLE IS DEFINED AS A VEHICLE
SO DESIGNATED OR AUTHORIZED BY THE ADMINISTRATOR OF THE
STATE MOTOR VEHICLE ADMINISTRATION.
