elected as hereinafter provided and who shall hold office
for a term of 2 years or until the succeeding Council
takes office and his successor shall qualify. The
regular term of office shall begin on the first Monday in
June next succeeding the election.
-14.12. Qualifications of Councilmen
Councilmen shall be at least 25 years of age, shall
be citizens of the United States and registered voters in
the Town of Riverdale, shall have resided within the
corporate limits of the Town of Riverdale for at least
six months prior to election and shall be a resident of
the ward from which they shall be elected. The
Councilmen shall retain throughout their respective ten
of office all the qualifications necessary for their
election and failure to retain all such qualifications
shall ipso facto cause a forfeiture of their respective
office.
—14. 13. Compensation of Councilmen
On and after June 1, 1973 the members of the Common
Council of the Town of Riverdale shall be compensated at
the rate of $75 per month to be paid monthly by the Town
Treasurer. Any change in the rate of salary, either by
way of increase or decrease, may be made by ordinance at
any regular Council meeting provided however that any
such change made shall begin on June 1st followinq the
annual town election.
-14.11 Meetings of Council
The Common Council of Riverdale shall meet at least
once a month. Special meetings may be called for a
specific purpose upon request of the Mayor or a majority
of the members of the Council. All meetings of the
Council shall be open to the public and the rules of the
Council shall provide that residents of the Town shall
have a reasonable opportunity to be heard at any meeting
in regard to any municipal question. Nothing contained
herein shall be construed to prevent any such body from
holding an Executive Session or acting as a special
hearing body from which the public is excluded, but no
ordinance, rule or regulation shall be finally adopted at
such an Executive Session or hearinq.
—14.15. Council to be judge of qualifications of its
members
The Council shall be the judge of the election and
qualifications of its own members.
