MUNICIPAL CHARTERS

to extend the time of general registration.

THEREFORE: BE IT ENACTED AND ORDAINED BY THE MAYOR
AND CITY COUNCIL OF LAUREL, MARYLAND, that Section 23(b)
of the Charter of the City of Laurel, entitled
"Registration — Comprehensive Provisions - Time of
Registration, General" be amended by the exclusion of the
words "from January 1st through the close of business on
the Friday preceding the last Monday in February in every
even-numbered year. However, in 1973, the start of
general registration shall be February 1, 1972" and at
the end of said subsection by the addition of the words
"except for the special registration provided in
subsection (c) of this Section, no registration shall
take place during the forty—five (45) day period
immediately preceding the third Monday in March, and the
forty—five (45) day period immediately after the third
Monday in March", to read as follows:

Section 23. Comprehensive Provisions.

(b) Time of Registration, General.

Qualified residents of the City of Laurel may
register to vote at the City Hall or such other location
as may be designated by the Mayor and City Council on
such days and during such hours as the City offices are
normally open [from January 1st though the close of
business on the Friday preceding the last Monday in
February in every even-numbered year. However, in 1972,
the start of general registration shall be February 1,
1972 3, EXCEPT FOR THE SPECIAL REGISTRATION PROVIDED IN
SUBSECTION (C) OF THIS SECTION, NO REGISTRATION SHALL
TAKE PLACE DURING THE FORTY-FIVE DAY PERIOD IMMEDIATELY
PRECEDING THE THIRD MONDAY IN MARCH AND THE FORTY-FIVE
DAY PERIOD IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE THIRD MONDAY IN MARCH,
IN AN ELECTION YEAR.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the date of the adoption
of the Resolution is the 26th day of November, 1973, and
that the Amendment to the Charter of the City of Laurel,
hereby proposed by this enactment, shall be and become
effective on the 16th day of January, 1974, and a copy of
the title of this Resolution shall be published in a
newspaper of general circulation in the City of Laurel
not less than four times at weekly intervals before the
3rd day of January, 1974.

AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that as soon as the
Charter Amendment hereby enacted shall become effective,
either as herein provided or following a referendum, the
Mayor of the City of Laurel shall send separately by
registered mail, to the Secretary of the State of
Maryland, to the Department of Legislative Reference,
