MUNICIPAL CHARTERS

WHEREAS, by eliminating this undue restriction on
those otherwise qualified to seek and hold elective
office, there will be provided to the citizens of the
City of College Park a government elected from a broader
range of citizens,

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COLLEGE PARK, MARYLAND that
Section 5 of Article V of the Charter of the City of
College Park is hereby amended to read as follows:

§ 5. Government in general.

The government of said city shall be vested in a
Mayor and eight (8) District Councilmen, one (1) from
each of the several districts of the city, and such other
officers as are hereinafter designated or shall be
appointed by the Mayor and Council; and each officer
appointed shall continue to hold office for such term or
terms as the Mayor and Council shall determine. The
Mayor shall be elected by the combined vote of the
electorate of the city, the several District Councilmen
shall be elected by the voters within their respective
districts. Each [elective officer of said city shall be
an owner of real estate or real property improvements
within the city, or the spouse of such owner, and said
owner's interest shall be recorded in the Land Records of
Prince George's County on or before the final date for
filing as a candidate for city office; each] elective
officer shall [also] have attained the age of twenty—five
(25) years and must be a citizen of the United States, a
resident of the State of Maryland and a registered voter
of the said state and of said city. Each elective
officer of the City of College Park must continuously
reside in the City during his term of office; each
District Councilman must reside in the district from
which he is elected; and each officer shall retain
throughout his respective term of office all the
qualifications necessary for this election and the
failure to retain all of such qualifications shall ipso
facto cause a forfeiture of office.
