3210 EXECUTIVE ORDERS
OF MARYLAND, BY VIRTUE OF THE AUTHORITY VESTED IN ME
BY ARTICLE 41, SECTION 15B OF THE ANNOTATED CODE OF
MARYLAND (1971 REPLACEMENT VOLUME AND 1973
CUMULATIVE SUPPLEMENT, AS AMENDED BY CHAPTER 1 OF
THE ACTS OF 1973, SECOND SPECIAL SESSION), AND
BECAUSE I AM ADVISED AND INFORMED THAT THE FOLLOWING
IS REASONABLE AND NECESSARY IN VIEW OF THE SITUATION
OF EMERGENCY, DO HEREBY PROCLAIM AND ISSUE THE
FOLLOWING ORDER:
1. The following days are hereby declared
to be school holidays: from the 2nd day
of January, 1974, through the 4th day of
January, 1974, inclusive. All public
and private schools within the State of
Maryland are hereby directed to extend
their respective winter holiday
vacations to include, and they shall
remain closed during, these days.
2. All statutory and regulatory provisions
relating to the minimum number of school
days required during each school year
shall remain in full force and effect.
Accordingly, the school calendars of the
public and private schools affected by
this Order shall be adjusted to add
three additional school days in
substitution for those lost by reason of
this Order, which adjustments shall be
made, as to the public schools, by the
local boards of education of the
counties and the City of Baltimore and,
as to the private schools, by their
respective governing bodies.
3. As used in this Order, "public school"
means any school at the elementary or
secondary level which is a part of the
State's general system of free public
schools; and "private school" means any
private school or educational
institution, however designated,
including parochial or other schools
operated by church organizations, which
offers a program of regular, thorough
instruction during the entire period of
the school year in the studies usually
taught in the public schools to children
of the same age, and which has
heretofore scheduled a holiday vacation
to include the 1st day of January, 1974.
4. Any violation of this Order shall be
