MARVIN MANDEL, Governor 3141
permit automobile dealers to do business on Sunday. Such
a regional effect is neither needed nor desired by the
automobile industry and its employees.
In addition, while the bill may justifiably relate
to the convenience of the buying public, there has been
no public demand for automobile dealers to remain open on
Sunday. Not one citizen of Charles County has written to
me in support of this bill, although hundreds have
written opposing it. I am informed that most automobile
dealers operate on a 6 day, 75 hour a week schedule,
thereby providing adequate sales service to the consumer.
I am further informed that as financing cannot be
arranged, insurance cannot be finalized, and liens cannot
be determined on Sunday, delivery to the consumer is
impossible.
For these reasons, I have decided to veto House Bill
967.
Sincerely,
/s/ Marvin Mandel
Governor
