House Bill No. 87 1 — Retirement Credit for Military Service
AN ACT concerning

[[Teachers']] Retirement [[System]] Systems —
Military Service Credit

FOR the purpose of [[amending the provision of the
Teachers' retirement System regarding military
service credit, deleting the requirement that credit
may only be given to members who were teachers when
entering military service;]] providing for military
service credit, not to exceed five years, to any
member of [[a]] the retirement [[system]] systems of
the State [[or any subdivision]], after ten years of
creditable service, to be funded by the State or
other governmental employing agency; and precluding
credit to members who have received military service
credit under another retirement system, for which
benefits have been or will be received; and
clarifying the language.

Dear Mr. Speaker:

In accordance with Article II, Section 17, of the
Maryland Constitution, I have today vetoed House Bill
871.

This bill provides for certain military service
credits to members of a State retirement system.

Senate Bill 540, which was enacted by the General
Assembly and signed by me on May 31, 1974, accomplishes
the same purpose as House Bill 871.

Therefore, it is unnecessary for me to sign House
Bill 871.
