Ho. 54

(House Joint Resolution 66)
A House Joint Resolution concerning

Health Services Cost Review Commission

FOR the purpose of recommending inclusion of the Hospital
Cost Analysis Service, Inc., in the Health Services
Cost Review Commission to furnish the necessary
expertise in cost verification to the Commission.

WHEREAS, The General Assembly created within the
Department of Health and Mental Hygiene the Health
Services Cost Review Commission to provide the public
with information concerning hospitals and related
institutions, including their financial position , the
verified total costs in rendering services, and the
reasonableness of rates.

The duties require the collection and analysis of
accurate information, upon which the Health Services Cost
Review Commission decides the Banner in which to execute
additional duties, including reviewing proposed rates for
health services and recommending appropriate actions by
the General Assembly.

The Health Services Cost Review Commission requires
reliable and efficient sources of information to fulfill
its duties. The demand for information is particularly
crucial in areas of cost verification, which is
fundamental to its rate setting responsibilities.
