2984                                        JOINT RESOLUTIONS

the Governor is requested to extend the   term of    the

Commission on Judicial Reform for one year to     April     15,

1975, so that it may complete the work   that it   has
started; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be sent to
the Honorable Marvin Mandel, Governor of Maryland.

A House Joint Resolution concerning

Calvert County — Official County Seal

FOR the purpose of designating the emblem adopted by the
County Commissioners of Calvert County as the
Official County Seal and requesting the Governor to
issue a proclamation recognizing its adoption as the
Official Seal of Calvert County.

WHEREAS, The citizens of Calvert County,
acknowledging their history, celebrated their
Tercentenary in 1954; and

WHEREAS, For that occasion the County Commissioners
of Calvert County named a Committee to design an official
emblem for the County; and

WHEREAS, Being cognizant of the rich bounty of
nature found in Calvert County, the Committee determined
that an overflowing cornucopia would best depict said
bounty; and

WHEREAS, Wishing to acknowledge the importance of
the County's historic, and present day, major money crop,
it was determined to signify said crop by a tobacco leaf;
and

WHEREAS, Drawing attention to the County's
magnificent location between the colorful Chesapeake Bay
and placid Patuxent River, they symbolized this Pleasant
Peninsula with an oyster shell surrounded by rope and
anchors; and

WHEREAS, Realizing that Calvert County has the
privilege of being a part of the Great State of Maryland,
they chose to superimpose upon the rope some Black—eyed
Susans, Maryland's Official State Flower, which grows
