2936                                        LAWS OF MARYLAND                     [Ch. 876

ANY MUNICIPALITY WHERE THE SITE IS LOCATED. NOT EARLIER
THAN 48 HOURS, EXCLUDING SATURDAYS, SUNDAYS OR HOLIDAYS,
PRIOR TO THE COMMENCEMENT OF ANY OF THE WORK DESCRIBED
ABOVE, THE PUBLIC SERVICE COMPANY SHALL MARK ON THE
GROUND THE HORIZONTAL LOCATION AND SIZE OF THE LINES OR
UNDERGROUND STRUCTURES BY INDICATING THE CENTER OF THE
LINE AND ITS SIZE OR THE SIDES OF THE STRUCTURE, BY
STAKING, PAINTING, OR OTHER SUITABLE MEANS, WHICH MARKING
SHALL BE WITHIN THREE (3) FEET OF THE CENTER OF THE LINE
OR THE SIDE OF THE STRUCTURE, AS THE CASE MAY BE. IF THE
UNDERGROUND FACILITY IS A CABLE OR CABLES, THE MARKING
ALSO SHALL INDICATE THE NUMBER THEREOF. PROMPTLY AFTER
RECEIPT OF A BEQUEST FOR INFORMATION, AS HEREINABOVE
PROVIDED, THE PUBLIC SERVICE COMPANY SHALL FURNISH A
CERTIFICATION TO THE REQUESTER STATING WHETHER ITS
UTILITY LINES OR STRUCTURES ARE LOCATED UNDERGROUND IN
THE AREA WHERE THE WORK IS TO BE PERFORMED, AND, IF ITS
UTILITY LINES OR STRUCTURES ARE SO LOCATED, THAT THE
LOCATION AND SIZE OF THE LINES OR STRUCTURES HAS BEEN
MARKED ON THE GROUND OR WILL BE MARKED BY A CERTAIN DATE
AND TIME. AT THE SAME TIME, THE PUBLIC SERVICE COMPANY
SHALL RETURN TO SUCH REQUESTER ONE COPY OF AMY SITE
DRAWING OR PLAN PREVIOUSLY SUBMITTED TO THE PUBLIC
SERVICE COMPANY BY THE REQUESTER PURSUANT TO THIS SECTION
AND SHALL SHOW ON THE SITE DRAWING OR PLAN THE HORIZONTAL
LOCATION AND SIZE OF ITS UTILITY LINES AND UNDERGROUND
STRUCTURES.

(B) IN THE CASE OF EXTRAORDINARY CIRCUMSTANCES, IF
THE PUBLIC SERVICE COMPANY CANNOT MARK THE SITE WITHIN
THE TIME REQUIRED, THE COMPANY SHALL NOTIFY THE COUNTY
AND THE REQUESTER, AND SHALL NOTIFY THEM OF THE DATE AND
TIME WHEN THE SITE WILL BE MARKED.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
shall take effect July 1, 1974.
