AN ACT concerning
Public Education — Student Teachers and Student Interns
FOR the purpose of authorizing county boards of education
and the Board of School Commissioners of Baltimore
City to enter into agreements with certain
institutions of higher education regarding certain
experiences for student teachers and student interns
and relating to comprehensive liability insurance
and Workmen's Compensation Coverage for those
persons.

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That new Section 112B be and it is hereby added
to Article 77 — Public Education, of the Annotated Code
of Maryland (1969 Replacement Volume and 1973 Supplement)
to read as follows:
Article 77 — Public Education
112B.
(A) THE COUNTY BOARDS OF EDUCATION AMD THE BOARD
OF SCHOOL COMMISSIONERS OF BALTIMORE CITY MAY ENTER INTO
AGREEMENTS WITH INSTITUTIONS OF HIGHER EDUCATION WHICH
HAVE BEEN APPROVED UNDER SECTION 11 OF THIS ARTICLE, FOR
THE PURPOSE OF ARRANGING FOR CLASSROOM OR ADMINISTRATIVE
OFFICE EXPERIENCE FOR STUDENT TEACHERS AND STUDENT
INTERNS.
(B) STUDENT TEACHERS AND STUDENT INTERNS SHALL BE
CONSIDERED AS AGENTS OF THE COUNTY BOARDS OF EDUCATION OR
THE BOARD OF SCHOOL COMMISSIONERS OF BALTIMORE CITY FOR
THE LIMITED PURPOSES OF:
(1) COMPREHENSIVE LIABILITY INSURANCE
COVERAGE UNDER SECTION 56B OF THIS ARTICLE.
(2) WORKMEN'S COMPENSATION COVERAGE UNDER
SECTION 21 OF ARTICLE 101. BENEFITS UNDER THIS SUBTITLE
SHALL BE DETERMINED IN SUCH A WAY AS NOT TO EXCEED THE
SALARY OF A FIRST YEAR TEACHER IN THE SCHOOL SYSTEM.
