1832                                                 LAWS OF MARYLAND                            [Ch. 528

(2)    ANY DEPUTY SHERIFF APPOINTED PURSUANT TO THIS
SECTION SHALL BE PLACED ON A PROBATIONARY STATUS FOR THE
FIRST SIX MONTHS OF HIS EMPLOYMENT, AND MAY BE DISMISSED
BY THE SHERIFF FOR ANY REASON. AFTER SIX MONTHS OF
CONTINUOUS EMPLOYMENT, A DEPUTY SHERIFF HAS TENURE, AND
MAY BE DISCHARGED BY THE SHERIFF ONLY FOR MALFEASANCE OR
NONFEASANCE IN OFFICE. ANY TENURED DEPUTY SHERIFF WHO IS
DISMISSED MAY APPEAL BY REQUESTING A HEARING BEFORE THE
COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF CARROLL COUNTY WITHIN FIVE DAYS
OF RECEIPT OF NOTIFICATION OF THE ACTION OR HIS DISMISSAL
SHALL BECOME FINAL WITHOUT FURTHER ACTION BY THE COUNTY
COMMISSIONERS.

(3)    WHENEVER A DEPUTY SHERIFF APPEALS A DISMISSAL,
THE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS SHALL GRANT HIM A HEARING. THE
COUNTY COMMISSIONERS' DECISION ON APPEAL SHALL BE BY A
MAJORITY VOTE, AND THE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS MAY DIRECT
THAT THE DECISION BE AFFIRMED, OR IT MAY RESCIND THE
DISMISSAL AND ORDER THE DEPUTY SHERIFF REINSTATED WITH
BACK PAY, OR IT MAY DECIDE THE CASE IT DEEMS EQUITABLE.

[[ (4) AS APPEAL MAY BE TAKEN FROM THE DECISION OF
THE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS TO THE CIRCUIT COURT.]]

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act
shall take effect July 1, 1974.

AN ACT concerning

Carroll County — Paddlewheel Games

FOR the purpose of providing that in Carroll County spin
games or paddlewheel games may be used by certain
non-profit organizations under certain
circumstances, establishing limits for prizes in
these games, limiting the number of games that any
organization may hold in a calender year, and
clarifying the language therein.

BY repealing and re—enacting, with amendments.
