Public Service Commission — General Counsel

FOR the purpose of [[providing that]] changing the term
of office of; the general counsel of the Public
Service Commission [[shall serve at the pleasure of
the Governor and]]; providing that he shall receive
compensation as provided in the State budget and
adding certain sections to clarify the applicability
of provisions of the Act.

BY repealing and re—enacting, with amendments.

Article 78 - Public Service Commission Law

Section 12

Annotated Code of Maryland

(1969 Replacement Volume and 1973 Supplement)

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That Section 12 of Article 78 - Public Service
Commission Law, of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1969
Replacement Volume and 1973 Supplement) be and it is
hereby repealed and re—enacted, with amendments, to read
as follows:

Article 78 — Public Service Commission Law
12.

The general counsel of the Commission shall be an
attorney at law of this State [, and][[. HE]] AND shall
be appointed by the Governor upon the recommendation of
the Commission [[AND SHALL HOLD OFFICE AT THE PLEASURE OF
THE GOVERNOR]]. His compensation shall be [fifty-five
hundred dollars ($5500.00) per year] AS PROVIDED IN THE
ANNUAL STATE BUDGET. [His term of office shall be six
years, and he shall be eligible for reappointment.
Vacancies shall be filled for the unexpired term in the
same manner as original appointments are made. He may be
removed by the Governor for the same reasons, and in the
same manner as commissioners.] His term of office shall
be [[six]] TWO years, and he shall be eligible for
reappointment. Vacancies shall be filled for the
unexpired term in the same manner as original

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this
Act shall not be construed to extend or apply to the
salary of the incumbent in office on the effective date
