HEALTH IN GIVING COUNSEL AND ACTING TO SAFEGUARD LIFE AND
HEALTH, TEACHES AND SUPERVISES COMMENSURATE WITH HIS
EDUCATION AND DEMONSTRATED COMPETENCIES.

[ (d) Nothing herein shall be deemed to prevent an
unlicensed person from performing acts of nursing,
pursuant to the instruction and under the direction of a
licensed physician, dentist, registered professional
nurse, or licensed practical nurse within their
respective areas of responsibility. From and after July
1, 1969, persons performing such selected acts shall not
be designated by the word "nurse," but may use the term
"nursing," in connection with a word to distinguish the
occupation of the user, including but not limited to,
"nursing aide," "nursing assistant."]]]

292.

(a) [[(1)]] The Governor, upon the
recommendation of the Secretary of Health and Mental
Hygiene, shall appoint the Board consisting of [seven]
[[NINE]] SEVEN members, five of whoa [shall be] ARE
[professional] REGISTERED nurses; [[ [ ]] the remainder
shall be licensed practical nurses.[[ ] TWO OF WHOM ARE
LICENSED PRACTICAL NURSES; AND TWO OF WHOM ARE LAY
INDIVIDUALS WHO ARE NOT LICENSED OR EMPLOYED IN ANY
HEALTH CARE OCCUPATION.]] The members of the Board
holding office on July 1, [1973,] [[1974]] 1973 shall
serve the balance of the terms for which they were
appointed. Thereafter the term of office for members of
the Board shall be three years. No member shall be
appointed to more than [three] [[TWO]] THREE consecutive
terms. The Board shall be part of the Department of
Health and Mental Hygiene.

[[(2) REGISTERED NURSE MEMBERS SHALL BE
APPOINTED IN CATEGORIES AS FOLLOWS:

(I)    NURSING SERVICE: ONE MEMBER EACH
FROM ADMINISTRATION AND DIRECT CARE LEVEL.

(II)   NURSING EDUCATION: ONE MEMBER EACH
FROM ADMINISTRATION AND TEACHING LEVEL.

(III)  COMMUNITY HEALTH: ONE MEMBER FROM
EITHER ADMINISTRATION OR STAFF LEVEL.

(3) LAY MEMBERS OF THE BOARD SHALL BE
APPOINTED FROM DIFFERENT GEOGRAPHIC LOCATIONS IN THE
STATE. BEGINNING JULY 1, 1974, ONE LAY MEMBER SHALL BE
APPOINTED FOR A TERM OF TWO YEARS AND ONE LAY MEMBER
SHALL BE APPOINTED FOR A TERM OF THREE YEARS.
THEREAFTER, ALL LAY MEMBERS SHALL BE APPOINTED FOR A TERM
OF OFFICE OF THREE YEARS. NO LAY MEMBER SHALL BE
