observation, care and counsel of the ill, injured or
infirm, or in the maintenance of health or prevention of
illness of others, or in the supervision and teaching of
other personnel, or the administration of medications and
treatments, as prescribed by a licensed physician or
dentist; requiring substantial specialized judgment and
skill and based on knowledge and application of the
principles of biological, physical and social science.
The foregoing shall not be deemed to include acts of
diagnosis or prescriptions of therapeutic or corrective
measures.] THE PRACTICE OF REGISTERED NURSING MEANS THE
PERFORMANCE OF ACTS REQUIRING SUBSTANTIAL SPECIALIZED
KNOWLEDGE, JUDGMENT AND SKILL BASED UPON THE PRINCIPLES
OF THE BIOLOGICAL, PHYSIOLOGICAL, BEHAVIORAL AND
SOCIOLOGICAL SCIENCES IN EITHER;

(II)   THE ASSESSMENT, PROBLEM

IDENTIFICATION, IMPLEMENTATION, AND EVALUATION OF THE
HEALTH NEEDS OF INDIVIDUALS FAMILIES OR COMMUNITIES FOR
PURPOSES OF MAINTAINING HEALTH, PREVENTING ILLNESS AND
CARING FOR THE ILL, INJURED OR INFIRM.

(II)   THE PERFORMANCE OF SUCH ADDITIONAL

ACTS REQUIRING FORMAL EDUCATION AND CLINICAL EXPERIENCE
OR ITS EQUIVALENT AND WHICH ARE RECOGNIZED JOINTLY BY THE
MEDICAL AND NURSING PROFESSIONS AS PROPER TO BE PERFORMED
BY NURSES LICENSED UNDER THIS SUBTITLE AND WHICH ARE
AUTHORIZED BY THE BOARD THROUGH ITS RULES AND
REGULATIONS.

(III)  THE ADMINISTRATION, SUPERVISION,
DELEGATION AND EVALUATION OF NURSING PRACTICE.

(IV)   THE TEACHING OF NURSING.

(2) THE PRACTICE OF NURSING INCLUDES BOTH
INDEPENDENT NURSING FUNCTIONS AND DELEGATED MEDICAL
FUNCTIONS, AND MAY BE PERFORMED AUTONOMOUSLY OR IN
COLLABORATION WITH OTHER HEALTH TEAM MEMBERS, OR MAY BE
DELEGATED BY THE REGISTERED NURSE TO OTHER NURSING
PERSONNEL.

[(c) ["Practice of practical nursing" means the
performance for compensation of acts in the care of the
ill, injured or infirm under the direction of a
registered professional nurse or a licensed physician, or
dentist, and not requiring the substantial specialized
skill, judgment, and knowledge required in professional
nursing.] THE LICENSED PRACTICAL NURSE IS A RECOGNIZED
MEMBER OF THE HEALTH TEAM PERFORMING AN INTEGRAL PART OF
NURSING. UNDER THE DIRECTION OF A QUALIFIED HEALTH
PROFESSIONAL, A LICENSED PRACTICAL NURSE ADMINISTERS
TREATMENT AND MEDICATION AS PRESCRIBED, AIDS IN
REHABILITATION, PROMOTES PREVENTIVE MEASURES IN COMMUNITY
