1472                                             LAWS OF MARYLAND                          [Ch. 363

"AIRPORT HAZARD" MEANS ANY STRUCTURE, TREE OR USE OF
LAND, WHICH OBSTRUCTS THE AIRSPACE REQUIRED FOR THE
FLIGHT OF AIRCRAFT IN LANDING OR TAKING OFF AT AN AIRPORT
OR IS OTHERWISE HAZARDOUS TO SUCH LANDING OR TAKING OFF
OR WHICH INTERFERES WITH COMMUNICATION BETWEEN AIRPORT
AND AIRCRAFT.

1-111.

"AIR SCHOOL" MEANS (1) ANY AERONAUTICS INSTRUCTOR
WHO ADVERTISES, REPRESENTS OR HOLDS OUT AS GIVING OR
OFFERING TO GIVE • INSTRUCTION IN FLYING OR GROUND SUBJECTS
PERTAINING TO AERONAUTICS; AND (2) ANY PERSON WHO
ADVERTISES, REPRESENTS OR HOLDS OUT AS GIVING OR OFFERING
TO GIVE INSTRUCTION IN FLYING OR GROUND SUBJECTS
PERTAINING TO AERONAUTICS WHETHER FOR OR WITHOUT HIRE OR
REWARD; BUT EXCLUDES ANY PUBLIC SCHOOL, OR UNIVERSITY, OR
INSTITUTION OF HIGHER LEARNING DULY ACCREDITED AND
APPROVED FOR CARRYING ON COLLEGIATE WORK.

1-112.

"LANDING AREA" MEANS THE AREA OF AN AIRPORT USED FOR
THE LANDING, TAKING OFF AMD TAXIING OF AIRCRAFT.

1-113.

"MUNICIPALITY" MEANS CITY, TOWN, ([VILLAGE,
BOROUGH,]] AUTHORITY, DISTRICT OR OTHER POLITICAL
SUBDIVISION OR PUBLIC CORPORATION, OF THIS STATE.
"MUNICIPALITY" MEANS PERTAINING TO A MUNICIPALITY AS

HEREIN DEFINED.

1-114.

"NONCONFORMING" MEANS THAT WHICH DOES NOT CONFORM TO
ANY AIRPORT ZONING REGULATION OR RULE OR ANY AMENDMENT
THERETO.

1-115.

"OPERATION OF AIRCRAFT" OR "OPERATE AIRCRAFT" MEANS
THE USE, NAVIGATION OR PILOTING OF AIRCRAFT IN THE
AIRSPACE OVER THIS STATE OR UPON ANY AIRPORT WITHIN THIS
STATE. AIRCRAFT CAPABLE OF OPERATING ON WATER SHALL BE
GOVERNED BY THE RULES OF WATER NAVIGATION ONLY WHEN AT
REST OR OPERATING IN CONTACT WITH WATER.

1-116.

"PASSENGER" INCLUDES ANY PERSON RIDING IN AN
AIRCRAFT, BUT HAVING NO PART IN ITS OPERATION.
