AN ACT concerning

Criminal Injuries Compensation Act —
Eligibility for Awards

FOR the purpose of including within those persons
eligible for awards pursuant to the Criminal
Injuries Compensation Act, any person injured or
killed while giving aid and assistance to a law
enforcement officer in the performance of his lawful
duties or to a member of a fire department being
obstructed from performing his lawful duties.

BY repealing and re-enacting, with amendments.

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That Section 5 (a) of Article 26A - Criminal
Injuries Compensation Act, of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1973 Replacement Volume and 1973 Supplement) be
and it is hereby repealed and re—enacted, with
amendments, to read as follows:

Article 26A — Criminal Injuries Compensation Act

5.

(a) Except as provided in subsection (b) of this
section, the following persons shall be eligible for
awards pursuant to this article.

(1)   A victim of a crime;

(2)   A surviving spouse or child of a victim of a
crime who died as a direct result of such crime; and

(3)    Any other person dependent for his principal
support upon a victim of a crime who died as a direct
result of such crime.
