880                                        LAWS OF MARYLAND                             [Ch. 4

INVESTIGATION AND A COPY OF ANY OFFICIAL COMMUNICATION
OR RECORD OF WORK TO BE DONE. IT SHALL PRESERVE ANY
REPORT, STATISTICS, AND INFORMATION RECEIVED RELATING
TO THE DEVELOPMENT OF COAL OR OTHER MINING, OR THE
ENFORCEMENT OF THE PROVISIONS OF THIS TITLE. ANY
REPORT RELATING TO INSPECTION OR INVESTIGATION, AND
OTHER PERTINENT MINING INFORMATION SHALL BE PREPARED
AT LEAST QUARTERLY AND DISTRIBUTED UPON REQUEST TO ANY
PERSON OR ORGANIZATION INTERESTED IN MINING
CONDITIONS IN THE STATE.

REVISOR'S MOTE: This subsection presently appears
as Article 66C, section 493 of the Code.
The phrase "upon request" is new language
added to allow the bureau to distribute
copies of its report to only those persons
who request it. The present language
placed an affirmative duty on the bureau to
distribute the report to those persons it
deemed interested in mining. The only
other changes made are in style.

(C)   PUBLICATION AND DISTRIBUTION OF LAWS AND
RULES AND REGULATIONS DEALING WITH FIRECLAY
MINING.—THE BUREAU MAY PROMULGATE AND DISTRIBUTE UPON
REQUEST TO ANY INTERESTED PERSON OR CORPORATION
ENGAGED IN FIRECLAY MINING A COPY OF THE APPLICABLE
LAWS AND RULES AND REGULATIONS WHICH IT MAY PROMULGATE
RELATING TO FIRECLAY MINING AND THE OPERATION OF THIS
TYPE MINE.

REVISOR'S NOTE: Subsection (c) is new language
derived from Article 66C, section 653 of
the Code. The phrase "upon request" is
added for the reason explained in the
revisor's note to proposed subsection (b),
supra.

(D)    IMPROVING MINING CONDITIONS.—THE BUREAU
SHALL ENCOURAGE AND ASSIST REASONABLE EFFORTS TO
IMPROVE MINING METHODS AND CONDITIONS TO DISCOVER
BETTER WAYS TO PROTECT LIFE AND HEALTH, EXTEND THE
SERVICEABLE USE OF INSTRUMENTALITIES, AND PROMOTE THE
PROSPERITY OF THE INDUSTRY BY REDUCING WASTE OF
NATURAL RESOURCES AND FOSTERING ECONOMY IN MINING. IT
SHALL COMPILE, STATISTICALLY ANALYZE, AND COMPARE
AVAILABLE DATA REGARDING COAL OR OTHER MINING
PROCESSES AND OPERATIONS, AND ADVISE ANY PERSON
ENGAGED IN THAT INDUSTRY.
