H.B. 1240, Ch. 176 of the Acts of 1973
increased the salary of the sheriff of
Wicomico County.
The seven bills in 1973 which increased
salaries of sheriffs of various counties
were effective July 1, 1973. The increase
in salary will take effect with the next
term of office in accordance with Art. III,
§35 of the Maryland Constitution.
It should be noted that Ch. 830, Acts of
1973 added a new section 10(f) to Art. 25
to authorize the Talbot County
Commissioners to set the salary and
regulate the expenses of the Talbot County
Sheriff. Until the Commissioners act, the
provisions of subsection (v) of this
section will remain in effect.
SUBTITLE 4. APPELLATE COURTS.
SEC. 2-401. CLERK OF APPELLATE COURT.
(A) CLERK - APPOINTMENT AND DUTIES.
AN APPELLATE COURT SHALL HAVE A CLERK WHO IS
APPOINTED BY AND SERVES AT THE PLEASURE OF THE COURT.
HE SHALL PERFORM THE DUTIES REQUIRED BY SUBTITLE 2 OF
THIS TITLE AND THE ADDITIONAL DUTIES PRESCRIBED BY THE
JUDGES.
(B) OTHER EMPLOYEES.
SUBJECT TO APPROVAL BY THE COURT, THE CLERK MAY
EMPLOY THE DEPUTY CLERKS AND OTHER EMPLOYEES NECESSARY
FOR THE CONDUCT OF HIS OFFICE WHO SHALL PERFORM THE
DUTIES PRESCRIBED BY THE JUDGES.
REVISOR'S NOTE: This section is new language
derived from Art. 17, §§ 45 and 46A. These
sections are combined because this subtitle
applies to both the Court of Appeals and
Court of Special Appeals. The definition
of Appellate Court appears in §2—101.
The list of duties of the clerk is
unnecessary in light of Subtitle 2 — Duties
of all clerks.
