(6) The style of the section has been
revised.
None of the changes made in this section
are of a substantive nature, and the
changes will not in any way affect the
salaries, benefits, or operation of any
sheriff's office.
At the 1973 regular session of the General
Assembly, the following changes were
effected.
H.B. 1346, Ch. 627 of the Acts of 1973
increased the salary of the sheriff of Anne
Arundel County. The bill also increased
the sheriff's budget, and specified how a
portion of that increase is to be used.
H.B. 771, Ch. 48 of the Acts of 1973
increased the salary of the sheriff of
Caroline County.
H.B. 696, Ch. 37 of the Acts of 1973
increased the salary of the sheriff of
Dorchester County.
S.B. 1148, Ch. 448 of the Acts of 1973
requires the sheriff of Garrett County to
appoint a person to act as matron of the
jail, and to set the salary for this
position.
H.B. 1034, Ch. 336 of the Acts of 1973
increased the salary of the sheriff of
Harford County.
H.B. 1479, Ch. 189 of the Acts of 1973
increased the salary of the sheriff of
Montgomery County. The bill also
eliminated a specified number of deputy
sheriffs and left these positions to the
county budget. It places all deputies
under the county merit system. It
eliminates the deputy sheriffs1 salary and
eliminates the provision for a chief deputy
to be appointed by the sheriff.
H.B. 1166, Ch. 169 of the Acts of 1973
increased the salary of the sheriff of
Prince George's County.
