(A) SECRETARY MAY COOPERATE WITH FEDERAL
AUTHORITIES.
THE SECRETARY MAY COOPERATE WITH THE DEPARTMENT
OF AGRICULTURE OF THE UNITED STATES OR OTHER PROPERLY
CONSTITUTED AGENCY OF THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT, TO
ERADICATE OR CONTROL ANY CONTAGIOUS OR INFECTIOUS
DISEASE AMONG LIVESTOCK OR POULTRY IN THE STATE, IF
THE AGREEMENT PROVIDES THAT ANY WORK SHALL BE
CONTROLLED BY THE STATE.
(E) SECRETARY MAY APPOINT ASSISTANTS IN THE
EVENT OF AN EPIDEMIC.
IN THE EVENT OF AN EPIDEMIC OF CONTAGIOUS OR
INFECTIOUS DISEASE AMONG LIVESTOCK OR POULTRY IN THE
STATE, THE SECRETARY MAY APPOINT THE ASSISTANTS
NECESSARY TO SUPPRESS PROMPTLY THE EPIDEMIC. THE
SECRETARY SHALL FIX COMPENSATION FOR THE ASSISTANTS.
REVISOR'S NOTE: Subsection (a) presently appears
as Art. 66C, §431 of the Code. The
reference to "the Bureau of Animal
Industry" is proposed for deletion because
this agency no longer exists. A general
reference to the United States Department
of Agriculture is retained to allow for
intra—departmental reorganization.
New language is added to permit the
department to cooperate with the federal
government to control contagious and
infectious diseases.
New language is added in this and
subsequent sections to indicate that the
provisions of this subtitle relate to
"poultry" as well as to livestock. The
department applies the provisions of this
subtitle to poultry pursuant to an Opinion
of the Attorney General, April 13, 1972,
which declares that poultry and poultry
diseases are covered by the subtitle.
Subsection (b) presently appears as Art.
66C, §432 of the Code and is set forth here
for organizational purposes. This
subsection refers to the Secretary's
authority to appoint non—employees of the
Department to suppress epidemics. It is
revised so that this authority is
