(3)      CANDIDATES MUST BE [[REGISTERED VOTERS IN]] A
RESIDENT OF PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY FOR AT LEAST THREE
YEARS AND A REGISTERED VOTER IMMEDIATELY PRECEDING
THEIR ELECTION. DURING HIS OR HER TERM OF OFFICE A BOARD
MEMBER SHALL NOT HOLD ANY OTHER OFFICE OF PROFIT IN
[[STATE OR]] COUNTY GOVERNMENT.

(4)   THE PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION IS
ELECTED AS FOLLOWS:

(I) A SPECIAL PRIMARY ELECTION SHALL BE HELD ON
[[JULY 17]] SEPTEMBER 11, 1973 AND A SPECIAL [[GENERAL]]
ELECTION SHALL BE HELD ON [[AUGUST [[20]] 21]] NOVEMBER 6,
1973. THOSE MEMBERS ELECTED IN THE 1973 SPECIAL ELECTIONS
TAKE OFFICE ON [[SEPTEMBER [[3]] 4]] DECEMBER 3, 1973 [[,AND
SERVE UNTIL THE FIRST MONDAY IN DECEMBER, 197611.

(II) [[BEGINNING IN 1976, BOARD ELECTIONS SHALL BE HELD
IN PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION YEARS, AND THOSE ELECTED TAKE
OFFICE ON THE FIRST MONDAY IN DECEMBER FOLLOWING THEIR
ELECTION, AND SERVE A FOUR YEAR TERM]]. MEMBERS OF THE
BOARD SHALL SERVE FOR A TERM OF_ SIX YEARS EXCEPT THAT
THOSE MEMBERS FROM DISTRICTS 1, 4, AND_ 7 WHO ARE ELECTED
FOR THE FIRST TIME AT THE NOVEMBER 6TH 1973 ELECTION WILL
SERVE UNTIL THE FIRST MONDAY IN_ DECEMBER 1976 AND MAY_
SEEK REELECTION IN 1976 FOR A SIX YEAR TERM; AND THOSE
MEMBERS FROM DISTRICTS 2, 5, AND 8 WHO ARE ELECTED FOR
THE FIRST TIME AT THE NOVEMBER 6TH 1973 ELECTION WILL
SERVE UNTIL THE FIRST MONDAY IN_ DECEMBER, 1978, AND MAY_
SEEK REELECTION IN 1978 FOR A SIX YEAR TERM. THOSE
MEMBERS FROM DISTRICTS 3, 6, AND 9 WHO ARE ELECTED AT THE
NOVEMBER 6TH. 1973 ELECTION WILL SERVE. UNTIL THE FIRST
MONDAY IN DECEMBER, 1980, AND MAY SEEK REELECTION IN 1980
FOR A SIX YEAR TERM.

(III) ONE-THIRD OF THE BOARD_MEMBERS SHALL BE ELECTED
EVERY SECOND YEAR. BEGINNING IN_ 1976 THE PRIMARY
ELECTION FOR MEMBERS OF THE BOARD OF EDUCATION SHALL
BE HELD ON THE SECOND TUESDAY AFTER THE FIRST MONDAY IN
SEPTEMBER EXCEPT IN PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION YEARS IT SHALL
BE HELD ON THE THIRD TUESDAY IN MAY.

(5)   A MEMBER OF THE BOARD SHALL IMMEDIATELY FORFEIT
HIS OFFICE IF HE CEASES TO BE A QUALIFIED VOTER OF THE
COUNTY OR BECOMES A CANDIDATE FOR ANY OTHER OFFICE. IN
THE CASE OF A MEMBER REQUIRED TO RESIDE IN A PARTICULAR
[[COUNCILMANIC]] DISTRICT, HE SHALL FORFEIT HIS OFFICE IF
HE CEASES TO BE A RESIDENT OF THE [[COUNCILMANIC]]
DISTRICT IN WHICH HE RESIDED AT THE TIME OF HIS ELECTION,
EXCEPT THAT NO MEMBER OF THE BOARD SHALL FORFEIT HIS
OFFICE BY REASON OF ANY CHANGE IN THE BOUNDARIES OF HIS
[[COUNCILMANIC]] DISTRICT MADE DURING HIS TERM.

(B) (1) NOMINATION FOR MEMBERSHIP ON THE BOARD SHALL
BE BY PETITION ENDORSED BY A MINIMUM OF FIVE HUNDRED
(500) REGISTERED VOTERS OF PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY.
[[EXCEPT FOR THE SPECIAL ELECTIONS IN 1973,]] EACH PETITION
SHALL BE FILED WITH THE BOARD OF ELECTION SUPERVISORS
