CHAPTER 50
(House Bill 856)

AN ACT to repeal Sections 4-11, 4-26, 10-2 and 10-3 of the Code of Local Laws
of Washington County (1970 Edition, being Article 22 of the Code of Public
Local Laws of Maryland), title "Washington County," subtitles "Circuit
Court," and "Election Districts," and to repeal and re-enact, with amendments,
Section 10-1 of the said Code and title, subtitle "Election Districts," to
eliminate certain obsolete sections of the Washington County Code of Public
Local Laws and to amend the language of this Code relating to election districts
to make it conform with the number of election districts which presently exist in
Washington County.

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That Sections 4-11, 4-26, 10-2 and 10-3 of the Code of Public
Local Laws of Washington County (1970 Edition, being Article 22 of the Code of
Public Local Laws of Maryland), title "Washington County," subtitles "Circuit
Court," and "Election Districts," be and they are hereby repealed; and that
Section 10-1 of the said Code and title, subtitle "Election Districts," be and it is
hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

10-1.

Washington County is divided into [twenty-three] TWENTY SEVEN (27)
election districts, according to their present names, bounds and limits, and all
elections for public officers shall be held in the said districts, at the places therein
heretofore established by law for that purpose.

SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take
effect July 1, 1973.

CHAPTER 51

(House Bill 900)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 53(b) of Article 87 of the
Annotated Code of Maryland (1969 Replacement Volume), title "Sheriffs" subtitle
"Deputy Sheriffs" to provide that the Sheriff of Frederick County shall appoint
certain members of fire companies as deputies to function as fire police under cer-
tain circumstances, and providing for their powers, duties and the manner of per-
formance thereof and their demonstration of a satisfactory level of training.

SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF
MARYLAND, That Section 53(b) of Article 87 of the Annotated Code of
Maryland (1969 Replacement Volume), title "Sheriffs," subtitle "Deputy Sheriffs,"
be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

53.

(b) The provisions of this subtitle shall be applicable in Frederick County,
except as modified herein. The Sheriff of the county [is authorized to] SHALL
appoint not more than six members of any fire company to have the powers of
[this subtitle.] SUCH DEPUTIES NECESSARY TO PERFORM THEIR
DUTIES WHEN FUNCTIONING AS FIRE POLICE AT PARADES,
ACCIDENTS, FLOODS OR OTHER EMERGENCIES, OR AT ANY
